Banana, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Granola

Banana and peanut butter is the perfect marriage right? And how can you improve a perfect marriage? If I was the real macho latino now, the answer would be – “with bitches”. But as I am a nice guy, the answer is simply – “with chocolate”.
When you already have banana and peanut butter, you’re just missing the chocolate. The Ben & Jerry’s dudes almost had the most brilliant ideia, but they decided to replace the peanut butter with walnuts, when they came up with the Cunky Monkey. Such a dick heads. They could have created the best ice cream ever made, but they ended up with one just insanly good.
In this granola, however, nothing was left behind. And, on the top of that, it’s gluten free, sugar free and oil free. It’s a granola that clearly tastes like granola.

Carob and Orange Moist Cake

The best oranges in the world come from the Algarve.
Many aromas and tastes remind me my country, but very few foods are best representative of the south of Portugal than the orange.
Orange is on of my favorite fruits. Even living in Norway, where basically all the fruit tastes like crap (yes, sorry to inform you, my norwegian friends, but it’s true), I’m still eating oranges on a daily basis. Unfortunately, and just as the great, great majority of fruit in Norway, it’s imported. Normally from South Africa, sometimes from northern Spain. And just like almost all the imported fruit, it’s crap. This have nothing to do with the country where it comes from, of course, but simply with the fact of being harvested too soon to be exported.
Everytime I go home and I taste an orange it’s like I remember the true taste of the fruit. “Oh yeah, that’s true, this how oranges taste like!”.
My region have many fantastic products, namely ALL the fruit. But some of my favorite are, undoubtedly, orange, carob, almonds and figs.

Chocolate Sauce

It’s fruit or chocolate

Fruit or chocolate? Fruit topped with chocolate, of course! Why fruit OR chocolate?
As you’re not portuguese, you probably have no ideia what am I talking about. Well, if you don’t speak portuguese but you live in Portugal and you still have no ideia what am I talking about, dude, there’s life beyond Facebook and Instagram.
I know in most asian and south american beaches, you will find these guys walking on the beach with a box and selling pretty much everything, from coconut water, smoothies and natural juices, to açaí bowls, ice cream and even shellfish. But in Portugal we’re quite simple people.

Berliners VS Ice Cream

There are just two types of beach salesmen in Portugal:
– The ones selling ice cream (normally ice cream sandwiches) while screaming out loud “Olha o gelado fresquinho! É de fruta ou chocolate!”, which means “Here is the refreshing ice cream! It’s fruit or chocolate!”. Okay, this is not funny at all in english, but they have a really special way to advertise it portuguese;
– The ones selling berliners (basically a doughnut with no hole, normally filled with crème pâtissière) while screaming out loud “It’s the berliner! With or without filling!”;

Chocolate and Hazelnut Brownie

It is very important to state two things:

This recipe will not have exactly the same result as a tradicional brownie recipe;
This recipe doesn’t taste, NOT EVEN A LITTLE, like beans;
The big secret for this recipe are actually the beans. They’re what will give structure to the cake. But don’t worry, you won’t even notice it. Besides the neutral flavor, it will give an awesome nutritional profile to this recipe. Loads of protein, for the people worried about it.

The main goal with this recipe, just like all the others I bring to you here on the blog, is the remaking of a traditional recipe in a healthier way.

I could be making a 100% vegetarian brownie loaded with margerine, coconut oil and melted chocolate. That would be easy. More than easy, I know that would bring me more readers, because that’s exactly what everybody likes to eat. But when I started The Real Green Scene, I started it with a goal. More than a goal, a mission – to show the world that healthy food doesn’t have to be boring or tasteless!

Raw Carrot and Chocolate Cake

I am portuguese. I’m not a nationalist, not a little. I can sing A Portuguesa ’cause I learnt in school. I don’t get outraged because we have brasilian players representing our national football team. Even less I see representing the national football team as the ultimate act of patriotism. I am portuguese because I was born in Portugal. I could be anything else. But, as any other portuguese, my own tastes were shaped during my childhood. Specially when it comes to food.

No man. I’m sorry. I can’t. I tried carrot cake with cream cheese frosting many times. Vegan and non-vegan (Yes, I was not born vegan. Surprise, surprise). I’m not saying it’s bad. It is quite nice. But carrot cake is with chocolate frosting.
